See it at the dollar theater or on DVD, but don't pay full price. It is evidently not a popular opinion to have enjoyed the first three “Pirates Of The Caribbean” films, despite their having made over a billion dollars each worldwide. If you were to listen to Johnny Depp in his recent “Entertainment Weekly” cover story, the films are evidently no good, and the series needed an overhaul moving forward. Personally, I don’t buy that. I think the first film is still the one that gets everything right, but the second and third films have many, many things to recommend. If they commit any one sin above all others, it is that they are overstuffed. There is simply too much going on. There’s enough material in there for three or four films, and Gore Verbinski seemed to be determined to please you or to pummel you into submission, whichever came first.

There were several scenes that did feel "made for 3D", but it didn't ruin the movie by any means. Everything from the ambiance of a jungle to a bird flying by. Also, I did not see it in 3D, but the film had a LOT of 3D sound effects to make use of a theater's surround sound system, and it was highly enjoyable. As always, Hans Zimmer wrote a magnificent score. The music was at least a redeeming factor. I wasn't expecting Matrix or anything walking in, so. It has always been predictable, so it wasn't disappointing. How did you know that? No explanation, no nothing. The line at the very end was what did it for me (when he was explaining how to get the ship out of the bottle). I agree that Depp was trying way too hard to be Sparrow. I do wonder if he died at the end, or if she saved him.īlackbeard was actually a pretty good villain, in my opinion by the end, I really did hate him (choosing your own life over your daughter's?). I did enjoy the dynamic between the mermaid and the priest I justify that in that she is a mermaid, so he has fallen under her spell essentially. We don't care about Angelica she's just not as interesting as Elizabeth was in the originals due to the lack of a character like Will. The only character that the audience would connect with is Jack, and he is guaranteed not to die. The characters were also much less interesting, as you mentioned. No way to get back in the Spanish camp to get the chalices required to move the plot along? No worries, I actually have them right here.

Surrounded on all sides by the British? Just drop through a trap door right below you. The plot felt way too convenient most times Mutany on your hands? Just summon magic ropes to tie everyone up. I thought it was enjoyable, but hardly comparable to the original.
